Fashion should be a reflection of you and Jayme Wiley is a fashion statement all by herself! The celebrity fashion curator of Poetic Dyme has tapped into the art of expressing yourself with style. A native of San Diego, California, she was blessed to be able to create a custom dress for Janice Freeman from the Voice, who many will remember unfortunately passed away earlier this year! Read in detail how this beauty has defied the odds of single parenthood and get to know the brand she created all on her own.
Jayme Wiley, born and raised in Southeast San Diego, is in a lane all on her own. One of seven kids, Jayme grew up a tomboy in the streets of Lincoln Park. She could hang with the toughest kids in her neighborhood, yet still had an edge to her. Clearly, there was something different about her. It was following her high school years; she became a young mother at the tender age of 20. For some, life would’ve been over. During this time, Jayme felt the urge to step outside of herself. She saw her pregnancy as an opportunity to become the young woman that she always envisioned for herself. She attended her latter years of education at Abraham Lincoln High School. It was during these final years of high school that Jayme took an interest in fashion design.
Dreaming of an opportunity to pursue her secret passion, Jayme knew that her school did not provide the programs or skills necessary in fashion. Upon completion at Lincoln High, she decided in order to create a life that promised her and her infant son a brighter future, she had to make a change. The rest was history! She enrolled at Fashion Career College in Downtown San Diego. At FCC, she had an opportunity to learn how to create fashion garments. At a later time, she then returned to FCC and completed her studies in Fashion Business. Equipped with the skills necessary to start planning her fashion future, she still struggled with the confidence needed to persevere. After conceiving her second son, Jayme found her groove and began customizing clothing for friends. She realized in order to support her growing family and make ends meet, utilizing her craft to promote content changed the trajectory of her path.
One major highlight of her fashion career was the opportunity to design a custom dress for the incomparable Janice Freeman from The Voice. Sadly, Janice Freeman passed away March 2019 from pneumonia, having successfully battled cervical cancer while fighting lupus. Putting one foot in front of the other and making great strides, Jayme continues to master her craft by creating challenging one-of-a-kind pieces that speak to each individual. Often times, Jayme finds her creative space when she sees a celebrity rocking a particular outfit. This rings home because her ultimate goal is to become a celebrity stylist. She somehow finds a unique way of creatively transforming any outfit into a Poetic Dyme masterpiece. Tomboy meets street chic, is the perfect description when you see Poetic Dyme. The clothing articulately captures the unspoken proverbial…. you know Poetic Dyme when you see it. It is a statement all in its own…no caption needed…Poetic Dyme, An Expression of Style.
Bossing up as a full-time mom, supporting her kids, working a full-time job and managing her passion has opened doors that she could’ve never opened before. It is through the ups and downs of life; Jayme has learned that hard work and consistency really is the key to growth. Jayme initially made her start by participating in local fashion shows. At these events, she was able to network and showcase her skills, which led to her launching her very own Poetic Dyme fashion show in 2018. Home grown; the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Apparently, Jayme takes after her mother, Deborah Wiley, who has always been a fashion connoisseur. The Poetic Dyme brand can be spotted at various pop-up shops in San Diego County.
